Chasing Big Game in Kona's Summer Seas: An Offshore Adventure

One for the books today! Summer in Kailua-Kona brought us some interesting conditions for our Half-Day Kona Fishing Charter for Mahi & Tuna. Stephen and their crew joined us at Silky Sportfishing for an early morning adventure offshore. As we set out from the harbor, the skies were clear, but we knew from the forecast that clouds were rolling in for the afternoon. The waters around Kailua-Kona were inviting as we headed out to our fishing grounds. Once the stage was set, we got down to business with our offshore tactics. We employed a mix of trolling and deep sea fishing techniques, keeping our eyes peeled for any signs of activity. The kite fishing setup added an extra dimension to our approach, allowing us to cover more water and present our baits in a natural way. Despite our best efforts and the variety of methods we used, the fish weren't particularly cooperative on this outing. But that's fishing - some days they're biting, and some days they're not. Even though we didn't land any keepers this time, the experience of being out on the water was worthwhile. As the afternoon progressed and the clouds started to gather, we continued to work different areas, always hopeful for that last-minute bite. We didn't stick a trophy on this run, but every cast and minute on the water was worth it. The crew remained in good spirits throughout, and we wrapped up the trip with great time and smiles all around! If you're thinking about coming out to Kailua-Kona for some world-class offshore fishing, I'd love to have you aboard with us at Silky Sportfishing. Our Private Half-Day Offshore Fishing Trip is perfect for anglers looking to experience the thrill of deep sea fishing in the rich waters off the Big Island. Whether you're after mahi-mahi, tuna, or just a great day on the water, we've got you covered. We provide all the gear and expertise you need for a successful outing. From trolling to kite fishing, we'll use every trick in the book to put you on the fish. The summer months can be particularly exciting, with various pelagic species moving through our waters. Even on days when the bite is slow, the experience of being out on the beautiful Pacific, surrounded by the stunning coastline of Hawaii, is something you won't forget. So grab a friend or bring the family, and let's head out for some offshore action. Who knows? Your next trip could be the one where you land that fish of a lifetime. Give us a call, and let's get your next Kona fishing adventure on the books!

Kailua-Kona Fishing Report – April Update fishing report coverpicture

April 14, 2025

Kona Coast State Park - Hawaii, HI Fishing Report on 14th Apr, 2025

April brings a seasonal shift in Kailua-Kona fishing, as winter species begin to move out and summer favorites start showing up in stronger numbers. Striped Marlin action is beginning to slow, but the arrival of big Ono (Wahoo) is a welcome change for anglers looking for fast runs and solid fights. These hard-hitting fish are known for aggressive strikes and excellent table fare. Even with the seasonal transition, one of the best things about fishing in Kona waters is the variety. From Mahi Mahi to Yellowfin Tuna, there's always a chance for something unexpected to take your line. The bite is heating up—so now's a great time to be out on the water!
